Here you’ll find expert tips, stylist-approved product picks, and everything you need to make your salon results last, until we see you again.

Hair Extensions

What to Expect

Your hair might not feel quite like your own & change is hard, so please allow a few days to adjust to your new look.

It is normal for you to experience a slight “pulling” or “tugging” sensation on your scalp for approx. 3–5 days after the extensions have been attached as you get used to the additional weight.

You will also need a few days to adjust to the difference in how your hair & scalp feel when you sleep on the bonds, how to style your hair & wash it. Please bear in mind that it is normal to lose up to 10 extensions throughout their duration due to natural hair fall.

Maintenance

In order to maintain your extensions, it will be necessary to use Sulfate & Silicone Free products. We recommend the full Act+Acre scalp care range, the full Color WOW range, or the Kérastase Discipline range.

Do not apply any products directly onto the bonds or tapes.

Recommendations

We advise you to use Heat Protectant EVERY TIME you heat style your hair, this includes using a hair dryer. Not only is heat damage irreversible but it will discolour your extensions. We also advocate that you prioritise Scalp Care while enjoying your extensions.

Exfoliating your scalp weekly & applying scalp serums daily will not only protect your natural hair for the duration of your extension but it will also ensure that the quality of your hair is maintained or even improved once your extensions are removed. We recommend Act+Acre or Remi Scalp Care brands.

We recommend protecting your extensions from salt water, chlorine & sun exposure at all times. Sleep with your hair plaited in a protective style or use a silk or bamboo pillowcase.

We do not recommend colouring your extensions or using purple-based shampoos & remember that self-tanning lotions & tinted products will discolour your extensions.

Do not apply any products directly onto the bonds or tapes.

Removal & Re-Application

We recommend removing extensions after 3–5 months by a qualified professional only. On the day of your next application, your hair must be freshly washed twice with a clarifying or detoxifying shampoo & conditioner applied to the ends only.

Scalp skin is just as important as the skin on your face. The hair bulb sits right in the centre of the skin layers, meaning that scalp care is vital to hair quality & health.

What to Expect

Dead Skin Cells build up on your skin as you age making it appear dull. Exfoliation is the most important step in scalp health.

Skin Dehydrates during sleep. This is the most important time to hydrate your skin & scalp.

Oxidative stress, Sun & Pollution are the 3 main factors that age & damage our skin & hair the most. Oxygen, Sun & Pollution are around 365 days a year & for that reason are the most damaging. Antioxidants are the only solution. These are Vitamins C, A and E. Vitamin C has the best results. Vitamin A is Retinol. Vitamin E is long lasting.

The first factor to take into consideration with hair health is that EVERYTHING that is happening inside the body will affect hair health. Your hair is the last element that your body will service.

The Digestive system has the most effect on your hair health. Each hair follicle grows from a blood supply. It is nourished & fuelled by this blood supply; it is the vessel that carries EVERYTHING the hair needs to be strong & healthy. If your diet is poor, then this will have a severe effect on the quality of the hair fibre & it’s ability to grow.

The Endocrine system has the second most effect on the hair. Any hormonal changes or irregularities will have a direct impact on your hair as these hormones will be carried (or not carried in the case of a deficiency) to the hair follicle by the blood supply. Major contributors would be pregnancy, Perimenopause & Menopause.

Gruaig 5 Star Recommendations

Scalp stamping & massage is the number 1 most beneficial action you can do for your hair health.

A scalp serum is the best hair mask you will ever use.

Scalp serums are far more effective than shampoo. Shampoo is washed off & doesn’t penetrate the skin.

Scalp care is like skin care. Hair care is like makeup. Scalp care will make physical change; hair care is purely cosmetic.

Scalp exfoliants should be chemical not abrasive. A clean, healthy scalp is important for longevity, to have good hair in the future.

If you are washing your hair every 2 days, this is a very healthy amount of oil production. Washing daily is ok.

Maintenace

DO NOT wash your hair or put your hair into plaits or tie it up with a bobbin or clips for 48 hours after your service. As your hair grows over the following weeks, any natural movement from your regrowth area will push some movement back into the ends of your hair. This is completely normal & unavoidable.

Recommendations

We recommend protecting your hair from salt water, chlorine & sun exposure at all times. It will be necessary to use Sulfate & Silicone-Free products. We recommend the full Act+Acre scalp care range, the full Color WOW range or the Kérastase Discipline range & using a conditioning mask to maintain a hydrated & sleek finish on your lengths & ends.
